How to tag Shopify products by price range (premium, gifts under $50…)

Updated October 10, 2026

Price ranges are a simple way to guide shoppers: a Premium collection, Gifts under $50, a Small prices section. Building them by hand means re-tagging every time a price changes. This guide shows how to tag products by price automatically.

RulePrice ≥ 100→premium

Premium products

In MDTagPilot, go to Rule templates and pick Premium (price ≥ 100). The rule contains:

  • Condition: Price greater than or equal to 100, in your store's currency.
  • Tag to apply: premium.
  • Remove tag when conditions no longer match: on, so a product that gets cheaper leaves the premium range.

Gift ideas by budget

Create a rule with the condition Price between 0 and 50 and the tag gift-under-50. Use the same pattern for other budgets: 50 to 100, 100 to 200. Each range becomes an automated collection with Product tag is equal to gift-under-50.

Combine price with other conditions

On the Pro plan, a rule can combine several conditions. A few useful combinations:

  • Price ≥ 100 AND Product type is equal to Jewelry: premium jewelry only.
  • Price between 0 and 30 AND Inventory quantity > 0: small prices that are actually available.
  • Price ≥ 100 AND On sale: premium products on sale, for a dedicated campaign.

Check before you apply

New rules start inactive, and the preview shows how many products fall in the range before any tag is written. Adjust the thresholds until the collection has the right size, then run the rule.

Frequently asked questions

Which price is used when variants have different prices?

The price of the first variant. If your variants have very different prices, put the reference variant first.

Does the tag follow price changes?

Yes. On the Pro plan, MDTagPilot re-evaluates a product each time it is edited, so changing a price adds or removes the tag right away.

Can I create several ranges?

Yes, with one rule per range, for example Price between 0 and 50 with tag gift-under-50, and Price ≥ 100 with tag premium. Several rules require the Pro plan.
