ruptureHow MDTagPilot reads stock
MDTagPilot adds up the inventory quantity of all the product's variants. A product with three sizes and 0, 0 and 2 units in stock counts as 2.
Two ready-made templates
In MDTagPilot, go to Rule templates and pick one of these:
- Out of stock: condition Inventory quantity ≤ 0, tag rupture.
- Low stock (1-5): condition Inventory quantity between 1 and 5, tag stock-faible. Change the range to fit your catalog.
What to do with these tags
- Filter your Products page in the Shopify admin by tag to see what needs reordering.
- Create a Last items automated collection with Product tag is equal to stock-faible, to create urgency.
- Show a Only a few left badge in your theme for products with the low-stock tag.
Tags follow your stock
Both templates remove the tag when conditions no longer match: once you restock, the product loses the rupture tag. New rules start inactive with a preview of the result. On the Pro plan, active rules update tags automatically when a product changes and after each order.
Frequently asked questions
Are products that don't track inventory tagged as out of stock?
Products that don't track inventory usually report a quantity of 0, so they would match Inventory quantity ≤ 0. Check the preview: if they appear, add a condition to exclude them, for example on product type or vendor.
Is the tag updated after each order?
On the Pro plan, yes. MDTagPilot listens to new orders and re-evaluates the products they contain, and also re-evaluates a product whenever it is edited.
Can I hide out-of-stock products from a collection with this tag?
Yes. In an automated collection, add the condition Product tag is not equal to rupture so that out-of-stock products are left out.
