How to automatically tag new arrivals on Shopify

Updated October 10, 2026

A New arrivals collection only works if it stays fresh. Tagging new products by hand is easy; remembering to remove the tag a month later is not. This guide shows how to tag new products automatically and untag them when they are no longer new.

RuleCreated (days ago) ≤ 30→new

Set up the rule

In MDTagPilot, create a new rule:

  • Condition: Created (days ago) less than or equal to 30.
  • Tag to apply: new.
  • Remove tag when conditions no longer match: on.

Only tag products that are live

On the Pro plan, add a second condition Status is equal to Active. Drafts you are still preparing are then left out of the New arrivals collection.

Build the New arrivals collection

In Shopify, create an automated collection with the condition Product tag is equal to new. Add it to your main menu and your homepage.

To show the newest products first, sort the collection by Newest. To mix freshness and sales, a sorting app can rank the collection with several criteria at once.

Adjust the window to your pace

30 days suits a store that adds products every week. If you launch collections a few times a year, use 60 or 90 days so the collection never looks empty. The preview tells you how many products the collection will contain.

Frequently asked questions

Is the tag removed automatically after 30 days?

Yes, on the Pro plan. MDTagPilot re-evaluates rules based on the creation date every hour, so a product loses the tag the day it turns 31 days old, provided Remove tag when conditions no longer match is on.

Is the creation date the publication date?

No, it is the date the product was created in your admin. A product created as a draft and published later counts from its creation date.

Can I show a New badge in my theme?

Yes. Most themes can display a badge based on a product tag, either natively or with a small snippet in the product card.
