promoHow MDTagPilot detects a product on sale
A product is on sale when its compare-at price is higher than its price. MDTagPilot reads the price and compare-at price of the product's first variant.
Two ready-made templates
In MDTagPilot, go to Rule templates and pick one of these:
- Active sale: condition On sale (price < compare-at), tag promo. Every discounted product is tagged.
- Big discount (-30%+): condition Discount % ≥ 30, tag soldes. Only strong discounts are tagged, useful for a clearance collection.
Remove the tag when the sale ends
Both templates have Remove tag when conditions no longer match turned on. When you clear the compare-at price after the sale, the tag is removed and the product leaves the Sale collection.
Build the Sale collection
In Shopify, create an automated collection with the condition Product tag is equal to promo. Link it from your menu or announcement bar during the sale.
Check before you apply
New rules start inactive and MDTagPilot shows a preview: how many products would be tagged or untagged, with examples. Run the rule once when the result looks right, then activate it. On the Pro plan, active rules update tags automatically whenever a product changes.
Frequently asked questions
Which variant does MDTagPilot look at?
The first variant of the product. If only some variants are discounted, make sure the discounted one is listed first, or use a condition on another field.
Does it work with discount codes or automatic discounts?
No. Discount codes and automatic discounts are applied at checkout and do not change the product's price. MDTagPilot detects sales through the compare-at price only.
Can I tag only discounts above a certain percentage?
Yes. Use the Big discount (-30%+) template, or set the Discount % condition to any threshold you want.
